crime news, convicted murderer jodi arias returns to court on monday, she is expected to address the jury. this is the jury that is deciding whether she lives or dies. the jury found on wednesday that arias was exceptionally cruel when she murdered her ex-boyfriend, travis alexander. that makes her eligible for the death penalty. alexandra's brother and sister addressed the court. >> i cannot sleep alone in the dark anymore. i've had dreams of my brother all curled up in the shower, thrown in there, left to rot for days. >> i'm so glad he talked to me into taking this picture. i will cherish it for the rest of my life. >> powerful statements, the family still certainly grieving. hln's jane velez-mitchell has been covering the trial throughout and she has a rare look inside the jail where arias is awaiting her fate. jane? >> reporter: well, poppy, i am outside the jail in phoenix, arizona, this is where behind the barbed wires jodi arias sits in closed custody. i was able to take a tour of the facility with the controversial sheriff joe arpaio and jodi has been here for quite a lo

testifying in his bid for a new trial on armed robbery charges while today jurors in the jodi arias case consider the ultimate punishment after finding her eligible for the death penalty. we'll begin in phoenix with diana alvear. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. as the judge explained to the jurors, all murders are considered cruel by definition, but did travis alexander suffer during his 2008 death at the hands of jodi arias? >> we the jury, duly impaneled find that the the aggravating factor, especially cruel has been proven. >> reporter: the jury took three hours to decide that the way jodi arias killed her boyfriend, travis alexander fit the court's definition. arias was convicted may 8th of premeditated murder. >> as to count one, first-degree murder, guilty. >> reporter: after the verdict, she told a local station she prefers a death sentence to life in prison. >> i believe death is the ultimate freedom. so i'd rather just have my freedom as soon as i can get it. >> reporter: arias stabbed alexandre 27 times, slashed his throat, and after he was already dead, shot hi

the attorney for jodi arias is visiting her at the jail where she hangs out before she has to go to court. fridays are only lawyers days. no family can visit her. what is interesting is has only been a few days since that man and cocounsel made a motion to quit the case. motion denied. judge said no. understandably, judge said no. we are at the finish line of a $1.7 million, $1.8 million defense. he's had his visit with jodi arias in the jail. who knows what that conversation was like? because jodi has said she wants to speak. maybe in elocution. maybe just testimony. but she wants to stand up in her own defense. or does she want to actually defend herself any longer? at this point it is anyone's guess which is part of the reason why this has been such a fascinating case. just gets more fascinating. that is it for me. have yourself a wonderful weekend. i'm headed back down to phoenix for jodi's case. in the meantime jake tapper takes it from here. >>> congressional hearing drinking game. if you took a yagr shot every time someone said outrageous at today's irs hearing you'd be in for one
